This is a two-for-one kinda blog today – we’ve got a San Jose engagement session + a baby announcement all wrapped up into one post.
Emily and John reached out to me back in December 2021 to capture their engagement photos. These two have such a cool story – they met while they were both traveling. Of course, they hit it off but had to return from vacation.
While apart they kept in touch, but it wasn’t until Emily flew to California for a girl’s trip in Napa did things get serious. While in Napa, she and John met up and spent their whole time together. After that, they decided to take a chance and make it official.
Emily made the move from Nashville to San Jose to be with John and start a new job. In that time these two have gotten engaged, got a puppy, and lived through a pandemic together.
So, when it came to planning their engagement photos, they really wanted to highlight Downtown San Jose. Here’s the thing – when people come to me looking for more urban, colorful, downtown environments – their first instinct is to go to San Francisco or Oakland. But don’t skip out on San Jose! They’ve got some great little neighborhoods that give you that city look without feeling too busy.
We started their engagement session in the SoFa district – taking advantage of their bright pink walls and murals. Emily has such a fun style, she likes bright colors and taking risks on outfits (heck yes!) so it was really fun posing them in this environment.
After SoFa we headed over to San Pedro Market and Hotel De Anza for some rooftop vibes! Check out some highlights below!
After their engagement session in January, I was so excited that these two booked with me to photograph their wedding in March 2023!
But come Fall 2022, Emily sent me an email asking if she and John could change that wedding package to a maternity photoshoot and baby announcement!
So exciting to see these two become parents. We got to explore the San Jose Rose garden on a very rainy afternoon to capture some announcement photos. The good thing was that the roses were still in full bloom bringing tons of color to a very gray afternoon. They plan on using the photos to send out to wedding guests as a postponement and an announcement.
Emily and John, you two are going to be awesome parents, and Dolly (their pup) is going to be the best older sister a little one can ask for. Plus, the baby boy is going to be so stylish if he’s got mom’s genes!
Congrats, John and Emily!
Many mommas miss out on documenting the journey of motherhood. You already have so many things on your mind that remembering to get photos taken becomes the last priority. But being pregnant for some only happens once, for others maybe a second time – and each time is a little different. Don’t forget to document these memories.
From baby announcements to maternity and newborn photos, this year of motherhood and the first year of parenthood will fly!
